Château Galoupet, Cru Classé 2024
[Acquire from Château Galoupet]
A rosé that breaks the first rule of rosé.
Cru Classé de Provence · Organic · Amber bottle
Why it's here
Provence rosé is sold on its colour, so it comes in clear glass, even though light is exactly what spoils it. Galoupet, one of only eighteen estates classified in 1955, bottles its wine in amber glass to protect it. You cannot see the pink until it is poured. We like a producer confident enough to hide the one thing everyone else puts on show.
The object
The estate lies near the coast at La Londe-les-Maures and is farmed organically. Part of the wine is aged in large oak casks, which gives it more weight than the usual poolside rosé: white peach, citrus and salted almond, with a long mineral finish. The bottle is made largely from recycled glass and has won a design award of its own.
At the table
Serve it cool with grilled fish, bouillabaisse or roast chicken. This is a rosé for the dining table, and it will keep a few years, which almost no other pink wine can claim.
