Why it's here

This cigar was first rolled in 1986 for Zino Davidoff's eightieth birthday, and the size was later retired. Davidoff brought it back as a limited edition. It is nearly nine inches long and takes well over two hours to smoke. Nobody lights one by accident. It belongs to a wedding, a signing, a reunion: an afternoon you have decided in advance to give away.

The object

The long format lets the flavour change slowly, from cedar and cream at the start to roasted nuts and citrus peel in the middle. The length also keeps the smoke cool. The wrapper is a pale Connecticut leaf grown in Ecuador. One cigar in each box of ten comes in its own wooden tube.

Living with it

Choose the company first, then the chairs, then the drink. Davidoff suggests a dry Champagne, and it is right. Keep the rest of the box for the next occasion that deserves it.
