Why it's here
Most humidors are solemn brown boxes. Larusmiani, the oldest tailoring house on Via Montenapoleone, makes one in bright green lacquer, decorated like an old Cuban cigar label and named for the most famous bar in Havana. It keeps cigars perfectly and makes people grin when they see it. A study can take one object that does not take itself too seriously, and this is a very well-made candidate.
The object
The case is sycamore under many coats of polished lacquer, with artwork painted by hand and lettering inlaid in brass. The interior is lined in okoumé, a wood that holds moisture evenly and adds no scent of its own. It takes seventy-five cigars.
Living with it
Season it for a few days before filling, then keep the humidifier topped up. Stand it on a desk or sideboard where it can be seen. When you lift the lid for a guest, the box has already started the conversation.
