Why it's here
Since 1982 each vintage of Le Pergole Torte has carried a different portrait of a woman by the painter Alberto Manfredi, a friend of the estate's founder. It may be the most beautiful label in Italy, and collectors line the vintages up like a gallery. We offer the 2022 by the case, six portraits in their wooden box, because one bottle of this is never enough and a full case is how the serious buyers take it.
The object
Sergio Manetti made the first vintage in 1977 from Sangiovese alone, at a time when the rules of Chianti forbade it, and left the local consortium to keep doing so. The vineyards sit high in the hills of Radda, which gives the wine its lift: sour cherry, violets, crushed stone and tobacco.
In the cellar
Keep the case closed, cool and on its side. Pergole Torte is built for the long run and shows best after ten years or more, so open the first bottle with patience and the last with ceremony.
