The Inheritant ("we," "us," or "our") operates this website to provide a curated digital experience, including articles, features, and media content (the "Services"). This policy describes how we collect, use, and disclose your personal information. You can reach us at office@theinheritant.com.

Age

This site includes content about alcohol and tobacco and is intended for adults aged 21 and over. Before you enter those parts of the site we ask you to confirm your age, and we store your answer in a cookie so you are not asked on every page. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 21. If you believe we have, tell us and we will delete it.

What we collect

  • Information you give us. Your name and email address if you write to us, use the contact form or sign up for our emails.
  • Information collected automatically. Your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view and the site that sent you here. This is recorded by our hosting provider, Shopify, as part of running the site.
  • Cookies. Small files that keep the site working, remember your age confirmation and preferences, and tell us in aggregate how the site is used.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell anything directly, so we do not collect payment details. When you buy something we feature, you buy it from the seller, on the seller's site.
  • We do not run advertising pixels from social networks or ad platforms.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
  • We do not make automated decisions about you.

How we use information

To run and secure the site, to understand in aggregate what readers find useful, to answer you when you write, to send emails you have asked for, and to meet our legal obligations.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site lead to sellers who pay us a commission. When you click one, the seller or its affiliate network may set a cookie to record that you came from us. Those cookies are theirs, not ours, and are covered by their privacy policies. We receive reports of clicks and sales. We do not receive your name, address or payment details.

Who we share information with

Only the service providers that help us run the site: Shopify (hosting). They may process information only on our behalf. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Tools we use

We may use software, including AI tools, to help research, write and maintain the site. We do not use your personal information to train such tools.

Your rights and choices

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to office@theinheritant.com and we will respond within 45 days. We will not treat you differently for making a request. If we decline a request, you may ask us to reconsider by replying to our decision.

Visitors from the UK and Europe

We rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving the site, and on your consent for any cookies that are not strictly necessary. You have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your information, to object to its use, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Our site is hosted in the United States, so your information will be processed there.

How long we keep information

Only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as the law requires.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information. No system is perfectly secure.

The Product Museum

The Product Museum is a non-commercial section of the site, provided for education and inspiration. Nothing in it is for sale. Images and records are drawn from public archives, open-access museum collections and private collections, and are used in accordance with each source's terms or with permission. If you believe an image appears here in error, write to us and we will review it promptly.
