Why it's here

You know a great hotel within three steps of the door, before you have looked at anything, because of how it smells. That is done on purpose. AromaTech began in 2009 by scenting hotel lobbies, and this is the same method scaled for a house. A home with its own scent is remembered long after the visit, and guests rarely work out why.

The object

Most diffusers use heat or water, which thin the fragrance and leave the air damp. This one turns pure oil into a dry mist with cold air alone, so the scent stays true and hangs evenly through a room. The body is a slim black aluminium cylinder that sits unnoticed on a shelf.

Living with it

Choose one fragrance and keep to it, so the house comes to own it. Set the schedule from your phone to run lightly through the day and stop at night. Start on the lowest setting. It should be noticed on arrival and forgotten a minute later.
