Why it's here

Berluti began as a Paris bootmaker and is known for one thing above all: colour. Its Venezia leather is dyed by hand in layers, so the brown has depth the way a glaze has depth. Across it runs faint handwriting, copied from an old manuscript the family owned. You have to stand close to read it. We chose this case for that intimacy, and for a patina no machine can produce.

The object

The leather is tanned to take colour unevenly and is then worked by hand with dyes and waxes until it shades from tobacco to amber. The script is engraved into the surface. The case follows Berluti's classic single-compartment shape, with padded pockets inside and silver-tone fittings.

Living with it

Keep the rest of the outfit simple and let the bag carry the interest. The colour will shift with wear and sunlight, and Berluti can refresh or even change the patina for you years later, which makes this a case you renew instead of replace.
