    Why it's here

    Saint Laurent has always cut close to the body, and its briefcase is drawn the same way: narrow, flat and black. It is the slimmest case we carry. Some men have moved to a tablet and a single folder, and for them a full-size briefcase is mostly empty air. This fits what they carry now and keeps the line of a slim suit intact.

    The object

    The leather is smooth calf with a soft matte surface. A narrow gusset lets the case open without adding bulk, and the handles are rolled into slender tubes. The fittings are darkened silver, and the name appears once, small, in foil.

    Living with it

    Carry it by hand with a suit or on the strap with a coat. Smooth calf shows marks more readily than grained leather, so give it a dust bag and a careful owner, and it will reward both.
