Why it's here
Work no longer stays at one desk. The Getaway is Bottega Veneta's answer: a case big and soft enough to take a laptop, papers and a change of shirt, so one bag covers the meeting and the flight home. It uses the house's weave at a larger scale, which reads as more relaxed. Our other Bottega is for the office. This is the one for the airport.
The object
Wide strips of supple calf are woven by hand into broad squares that catch the light as the bag moves. With no rigid frame, the case gives a little when it is full and slumps a little when it is not. The handles are rounded for comfort over long walks through terminals.
Living with it
It fits under an aircraft seat and looks right with an unstructured jacket and good knitwear. Soft woven leather improves with handling, so there is no need to be precious about it.
