A razor from a workshop that makes parts for aircraft.

Machined in Ontario, Canada · Aluminium, copper finish · Standard double-edge blades

    Why it's here

The cartridge razor is a subscription disguised as a tool. Henson is an aerospace machine shop in Canada that decided to make a proper one: a single metal razor, cut to very fine tolerances, that takes the plain steel blades sold everywhere for pennies. It is the least expensive object we list, and it is here to show that precise making does not have to cost a great deal.

    The object

The head holds the blade so that only a sliver of the edge is exposed, which keeps it rigid and makes nicks unlikely even for a beginner. The handle is knurled for grip when wet. It is aluminium, anodised in a warm copper, and weighs little more than an ounce.

    Living with it

Use light strokes and let the weight of the razor do the work. Change the blade every week or so. Rinse and stand it upright to dry. There is nothing in it to wear out, and it carries a lifetime warranty.
