Why it's here

Dupont's classic lighters are heavy, gilded and serious. The Twiggy is the opposite: tall, thin and lacquered in a blue you would find on a beach hut in the south of France. It is a way into a great house at a modest price, and it shows that the house can be playful. We chose this colour because it is the one cheerful note in a pocket full of black and silver.

The object

The body is metal under glossy lacquer, the same finish Dupont uses on its grandest pieces, with a chrome cap. It weighs eighty grams and is under a centimetre thick. The flame is a small blue jet that holds steady outdoors.

Living with it

It is as useful for candles and the fireplace as for anything you smoke, so it earns a place on a mantel or a bedside table. In a breeze on a terrace it lights first time. Refill it with good butane and it will go on for years.
