Why it's here

When men look for an old perfume house they usually look to Paris or London. America has one of its own. Caswell-Massey has been trading since 1752, before the country existed, and Jockey Club has been in its range since 1840. Kennedy wore it throughout his life. It is a piece of American history you can put on in the morning.

The object

The scent is bright and clean at first, with bergamot and fresh thyme, then turns to rose, jasmine and a little basil, and settles into a soft powder. The present formula is blended in small batches in the United States. The bottle is square clear glass with a stepped gold cap.

Living with it

This is a daytime scent for a pressed shirt and a clear morning. It is light enough for an office and distinctive enough that someone will ask what it is.
