Why it's here

Some scents announce a man and others simply belong to him. Caswell-Massey's Sandalwood is the second kind. It has been worn for generations in the Northeast by people who never changed their cologne, and it smells of wood panelling, wool and clean skin. We chose it as the quiet partner to Jockey Club: warmer, lower and better after dark.

The object

Creamy sandalwood sits at the centre, with a touch of clove for spice and amber for warmth. It is an eau de toilette, so it wears lightly and stays close. It comes in the same square glass bottle as its sibling, with a cream stepped cap.

Living with it

Wear it from autumn through winter, with knitwear, tweed and flannel. Three sprays at the start of an evening are plenty. It is also a safe and generous present for a father or a mentor.
