Why it's here

There is a kind of Milanese man who looks as easy in August as he does in January, and much of it comes down to his shoes: low, soft, worn without socks. Edhèn, founded by Filippo Fiora, makes exactly that shoe. The Comporta sets polished calf beside matte nubuck in the same brown, so the contrast is one of texture alone. It is our pick for anyone who finds a penny loafer too stiff and a driving shoe too casual.

The object

The vamp is hand-polished Tuscan calf and the strap across it is velvety nubuck, closed with a small gold buckle. The sole is thin leather with a rubber heel, so the shoe flexes like a slipper. Each pair is made to order in Italy.

Living with it

Wear them with linen, cotton or light wool, from May to October. Orders take five to six weeks. A cedar shoe tree and an occasional brush for the nubuck are all the care they ask.
