The trouble with a serious bottle is that it has to be finished the night it is opened, so it waits for an occasion that rarely comes. This decanter removes that pressure. Pour the bottle in, drink one glass, press the neck down, and what remains will taste the same next week. We chose it because it changes a habit: you open better wine, and you open it more often.
The object
Tom Cotton, a British designer, spent years and dozens of prototypes on the mechanism. Pushing the neck lowers a seal onto the surface of the wine, so no air is left sitting above it. The body is laboratory-grade glass, the fittings are stainless steel in a satin copper finish, and the lip pours without a drip. The name is Welsh for "again."
Living with it
It stands on the table as a decanter through dinner, then goes into the fridge door for the night. Two people can take ten days over one bottle and lose nothing.
