Leica, Cine 1 Projector 120"
[Acquire]
Cinema, where the television used to be.
Leica Summicron lens · Triple RGB laser, 4K · Picture up to 120 inches
Why it's here
A television is a black rectangle that rules a room even when it is switched off. A projector leaves the wall empty until the lights go down, then fills it with a picture ten feet across. Watching a film this way feels like going to see one. That sense of occasion is what we wanted, and Leica, whose lenses have shot a century of cinema, makes the most handsome machine for it.
The object
The Cine 1 sits on a low cabinet a few inches from the wall and throws its image upward. Three lasers, one for each primary colour, pass through a Summicron lens made to Leica's standards. The housing is perforated aluminium with a cover that slides open by itself, and the speakers are built in.
Living with it
Give it a sideboard and, ideally, a proper screen made for short-throw projection. Draw the curtains, pour something, and start the film. When it ends, the room goes back to being a room.
