Leica, SOFORT 2 Instant Camera
[Acquire]
Print only the pictures worth keeping.
Designed in Germany · Instant prints, chosen after the shot · Black with the red dot
Why it's here
A photograph you can hold has become rare, and one you can hand to a guest before they leave is rarer still. The Sofort 2 takes pictures digitally and prints only the ones you pick, so no film is wasted on closed eyes. It is the least serious camera Leica makes, and it wears the same black body and red dot as the most serious.
The object
A flat black slab with a round lens at its centre. You frame on the rear screen, shoot, and pull the lever to print a small instant photograph. Pictures from your phone can be sent to it and printed the same way.
Living with it
Leave it on the hall table when people come to dinner. By the end of the night there are a dozen prints on the table, and everyone takes one home. Those small prints get kept for years, tucked into books and mirror frames.
